Drug Bust By Cachar Police: Youth Arrested with Heroin Worth Rs. 8.5 Crore

In a major success for anti-narcotics operations, the Cachar Police have arrested a youth with 1.7 kg of heroin worth approximately Rs. 8.5 crore. Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta intercepted the smuggler at the Assam-Mizoram border’s Dholakhal BOP.

On June 6, around 1 AM, the suspect attempted to cross the Dholakhal BOP on foot carrying the contraband. The police apprehended him and recovered 1.7 kg of suspected heroin concealed in 139 soap cases. The arrested individual has been identified as Abdul Ahad Laskar (33), son of Khalil Uddin Laskar from Rajgobindpur (Napithkhal) in South Dhalai.

SP Numal Mahatta confirmed that the seized heroin’s market value is estimated at Rs. 8.5 crore. The police have registered a case under the anti-narcotics law and have commenced an investigation.

This arrest marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region, reflecting the effectiveness of the coordinated operations by the Cachar Police.
