Drugs Seizure in Joint Operation by Karimganj Police and STF, 115 Cr Narcotics Seized
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, a joint operation by the Karimganj Police and the Special Task Force (STF) led to the seizure of a substantial amount of heroin and Yaba tablets. Acting on a crucial tip-off, the operation was spearheaded by Special Task Force (STF) Inspector General Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Karimganj SP Partha Protim Das.
During the operation, authorities confiscated 1300 grams of heroin and 350,000 Yaba tablets, with an estimated market value exceeding 115 crore rupees. The police have arrested four individuals connected to the case: Fuzail Ahmed, Naeemul Haque, Atiqur Rahman, and Jagjit Deb.
The seized drugs were hidden in a secret compartment of a truck with registration number NL 01A C 4764. The truck, owned by Habibur Rahman—a known drug trafficker who had recently been arrested and is currently imprisoned in Karimganj—was used for this smuggling attempt. Today’s operation revealed that the drugs were being transported by Rahman’s father, Naeemul Haque, who the authorities have also apprehended under the NDPS Act.
In this regard STF Inspector Partha Sarathi Mahanta said, “We had an input and held the operation accordingly. We apprehended a truck and it is well-known fact now that these drugs are being transported inside secret chambers and different tactics. This time it was hidden under the gearbox, in a secret compartment. Another place they hid was inside the tarpaulin on the back career of the truck. They folded the tarpuline into two halves and in between they hid the drugs. Police usually doesn’t check the tarpuline and they wanted to outsmart our team. This is a new technique. This consignment came from a neighbouring state and as usual goes to our mainland through Assam. These tablets are sold at a very high price in the black markets. In the metro cities of our country, one tablet gets sold at 3,000 rupees.”
This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety.
