
Electric Chulha inaugurated in Karimganj; “Now we can say we have something that Silchar does not,” Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha
North Karimganj MLA, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha has declared the electric furnace (Chulha) in Karimganj crematorium open. The MLA said it was his dream to get one electric cremation hub ready since 2011. “This is for the people of Karimganj,” he said after a low key inauguration event.
Purkayastha quipped, “Many times, we the people of Karimganj say Silchar has swimming pool we don’t Silchar has indoor stadium but we don’t… now we can say we have something that Silchar does not.”
This electric furnace that needs 45 minutes to cremate a body and Purkayasthya said it will help the administration to cremate COVID positive patients. “Since there is a lot of resistance in society when it comes to cremation COVID victims, the committee has decided to let the administration use the electric furnace for the funeral,” added Purkayastha.
The chamber has been built in Brojendra Road Samshan in Karimganj. “Such developments will redefine Karimganj’s image in South Assam’s map,” said the North Karimganj MLA after declaring the project worth Rs 2.4 crore complete.
While speaking with Barak Bulletin, Purkayastha had said that they will welcome dead bodies from Silchar Medical College and Hospital even if they are residents of other districts.
