Family upset as the hoax spreads; Hospital issues a bulletin on Dr. Chandrashekar Das’ medical condition

Retired head of department, Pediatrics-Silchar Medical College, one of the most renowned child-specialists of Assam Dr. Chandrashekar Das is admitted in a private nursing home in Silchar. Earlier today, a rumour started spreading that he is no more. Several news publications headquartered in Silchar and Guwahati published the news of his demise as “Breaking News”.

While his situation is critical the news of his demise has further saddened the family. Dr. Chandrashekar Das’ relative, Mitali Das said, “It is really unfortunate that news publications reported his death while he is still alive and trying to fight it out. He is in ventilation and under treatment but his condition is really critical.”

The hospital also issued a bulletin to inform the mass about Dr. Das’ medical condition. The bulletin states, “Dr. CS Das, an eminent paediatrician was admitted with severe hiccups and vomiting on 16/ 2 / 2020 night 11 pm for which conservative treatment was given and emergency haemodialysis was done at night. His vomiting and hiccups subsided but he developed slurred speech and deviation of angle of mouth on 17/2/2020 morning. An emergency CT scan of brain was done which revealed an ischaemic stroke involving vital areas of the brain.”

The bulletin adds, “His condition continued to worsen and he became unconscious by afternoon requiring ventilation. The treating Physicians & specialists lead by Dr. Giridhari Kar includes, Dr. Tanushree Deb Gupta, Dr. Abhijit Das & Dr. Rupankar Nath started all necessaries treatments in consultation with eminent Neurologists from renowned institutes. At present, his condition remains critical and he is under ventilatory support. However, his vitals are stable and all the doctors are trying their best for his recovery.”
