Father and minor son duo caught selling drugs in Bhaga Bazar

The drug menace has wreaked havoc across the valley, with youths falling prey to opioids. This has led to widespread issues such as job losses, mounting debts, theft, and violent behaviour under the influence of intoxication.

In a shocking incident on Monday morning at Bhaga Bazar near the Assam-Mizoram border, a father and his 12-year-old son were caught red-handed by locals, allegedly selling drugs. The incident revealed a new and disturbing tactic in drug dealing: using minors to carry and distribute drugs.

According to eyewitnesses, the father had hidden small plastic containers filled with heroin in his son’s pockets and was selling them in the market. Suspicious locals checked the boy’s pocket and discovered the concealed drugs. Outraged, they caught the duo and began beating them.

Such behaviour, however, should never be encouraged and must always be addressed through legal procedures and police action. Yet, the frustration of the people is evident as the drug problem continues to spread unchecked.

Amid the chaos, the father fled the scene on a scooter. Shortly after, the son, taking advantage of the distraction, also escaped.

Police arrived at the spot following reports of the incident. Locals handed over nine small containers filled with heroin, recovered from the father and son. The police have launched a manhunt for the duo.

Every other day, the Cachar Police is able to apprehend drug peddlers and confiscate huge amounts of drugs through “intelligence” and “tip-offs”, but how do drug peddlers still manage to smuggle drugs and sell them openly in markets?
