Female jumps from running e-rickshaw in Silchar to catch hold of a fellow passenger who allegedly molested her, lodges FIR 

A passenger of an e-rickshaw was dragged to the Rangirkhari Police Station by the female co-passenger of the same rickshaw. The female co-passenger alleged him of touching her inappropriately and also molesting her in the e-rickshaw. When the female co-passenger tried to apprehend the alleged molester, he tried to run away.

But after a long enough chase, he was caught by her with the help of the “locals of Bihari Patty” near Link Road. She also filed an FIR against the molester and demanded punishment for the sexual offense.

The female passenger, according to her, was returning home after finishing her shift in a bike showroom in Auliya Bazar, Sonai Road. She boarded an e-rickshaw like any other day and sat on the rear seat of the shared vehicle. Another man also boarded the auto on the same route. According to her statement, she was touched inappropriately by him and when she protested, he got down the auto and started to run away.

While speaking to the media, she said, “When he boarded the same e-rickshaw near the Suzuki showroom, he sat near me and started to push me towards the edge, he then tried to touch me inappropriately in my private parts. When I protested, he got the auto in the heat of the moment. He got down the auto and boarded another and tried to escape from there”. Both she and the e-rickshaw driver started to chase after him and finally caught him from Bihar Patty near Link Road.

In this regard, the e-rickshaw driver Ainul Haque Laskar said, “When she (the victim) asked me to drive fast and chase the other tuk-tuk in front of me, I couldn’t understand her. But I respect my passenger and thought this might be some emergency and so I accelerated. We saw this passenger who was sitting behind run towards Bihari Patty and she started to chase after him, I also followed. After a long chase, we got hold of him and along with her we went to the police station”. In the station, she filed an FIR where she mentioned the chain of events and mentioned she was molested.

Due to privacy reasons and ongoing investigation, the names of both the victim and alleged molester are not revealed.
