FIR against Cachar resident for uploading ‘anti-national’ picture on social media

An FIR has been lodged against a resident of Nunnagar village under Katigorah constituency in Cachar district for allegedly uploading a picture with an “anti-national” statement.

Dipankar Das, a resident of National Highway in Silchar, who lodged the FIR with Rangirkhari police outpost, has accused Dilwarhussain Barbhuiya of spreading “anti-national sentiments” via a picture on Facebook on February 27.

According to the FIR, Barbhuiya around 3:37pm on February 27 uploaded his profile picture that says “I stand with Pakistan army”. This “affects the minds and hurts feelings of patriotism of many youngsters,” the FIR said.

“When India is in a war like situation, such comments on social media, which are very sensitive, can disturb peace and harmony.” Das said in the FIR, and demanded stern action against Barbhuiya.

Sources said the matter was being inquired. Barbhuiya was not available for a reaction over the matter.
