Fire in a coach of Guwahati – Silchar train after passenger stubs cigarette in a panel
Today morning, there was chaos inside the Guwahati – Silchar train. As the train reached Narangi Railway Station, passengers in the sleeper Coach noticed fire coming out of a panel inside the coach. Immediately, there was unrest among the passengers and it was presumed that the fire is due to a short circuit in one of the electrical panels.
The team rushed with Fire Extinguisher and extinguished the flames. After initial inspection, the railway officials found out that the panel that caught fire is not connected with any electrical panels and therefore, ruled out a short circuit.
The onboard staff reported to the head office stating that a passenger has stubbed the cigarette and that has caused the fire.
The CPRO of NF Railways, Sabyasachi De informed that the train is on track and running as per schedule. After the fire was extinguished, the train continued its journey ahead towards Silchar. He has also confirmed that the fire didn’t cause any injury.
“What caused the fire is something that remains to be ascertained. As the train is on the track and running, we cannot confirm immediately, as to what caused the fire,” said De.
