Fire in Hailakandi’s Koyah T.E. soils Chat Puja celebration, damage to property and bungalow of Deputy Manager
Amidst the fervours of Chat Puja in Hailakandi, a bungalow in Koyah Tea Estate was gutted down in a devastating fire yesterday (early today). In the fire that got caught at the bungalow of the Deputy Manager last evening, property worth lakhs was got burnt into ashes and the people inside had a narrow escape from the fire. Fire engines from Hailakandi and Katlicherra rushed into action to doze the fire. No lives were injured according to the last report.
The source of the fire is not certain to the police, but Hailakandi SP Nabaneet Mahanta said, “Preliminary investigation suggests the fire might have caught due to a short circuit, we are looking into the matter further and the investigation is underway”.
According to the available information, the fire was caught last night and spread to the entire bungalow of the Deputy Manager of the Koyah T.E. Manager H Dewri and his family somehow escaped from the fire and saved their lives.
Fire engines from Hailakandi Fire Station and Katlicerra were rushed to the spot which helped to doze off the fire. The was set off early in the morning of November 1 and even though no lives have been injured in the fire, damage to property has been estimated to be in lakhs.
