Forest officials seize Rs 3.5 lakh worth teak logs and wood-cutting machines from Dohalia
Two wood-cutting machines and 50 teak logs were reportedly seized from Binodini and Narayanpur areas under Dohalia forest range in Karimganj district on Friday.
Dohalia forest ranger Prabir Biswas said a team including forest officials and police conducted operations in both the areas during which the items were seized. The officials got hold of two wood-cutting machines and 50 teak logs. The market value of the seized items is around Rs. 3.5 lakh, he said.
He suspected that the smugglers had perhaps got the information of the operation from earlier for which they managed to flee away. Further, he said such operations would be continued in the future.
Besides Biswas, the other officials who were a part of the operation included Soumitra Das (who led the operation), Dohalia deputy-ranger S. Sinha, Patharkandi ranger Sukhdeb Saha and Patharkandi police station’s officer in-charge D. Thakuria
