Four Houses Gutted In Devastating Fire At Silchar Kalibari Char

A massive fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon (August 19) at Kalibari Char in Silchar, reducing four houses to ashes and causing damage worth several lakhs of rupees.

The fire reportedly originated at the residence of Sanjay Das and quickly spread to neighbouring houses. By the time fire tenders arrived, Sanjay Das’s house was already gutted, and the blaze had engulfed the houses of Shampa Das, as well as the rented accommodations of Laxmirani Das and Phultara Das.

Locals immediately alerted the fire services after noticing the flames. Firefighters reached the spot within 13 minutes and, after prolonged efforts, managed to bring the fire under control. Police have confirmed that the blaze was likely triggered by a short circuit.

Mithun Nath of Bajrang Dal, who rushed to the spot, said, “These houses belong to house helps, who were not at home and had gone for work. Their houses were made of tin and bamboo, so the fire spread very quickly, burning everything in its way. Thankfully, fire tenders reached there quickly and prevented it from spreading further, or else the entire Kalibari Char area would have been destroyed.”

Another neighbour who called the fire services added, “I called the fire brigade, and they arrived in 13 minutes. Houses belonging to Sanjay Das, Laxmirani Das, Phultara Das, and Shampa Das have been completely burnt to the ground. Huge damage has been caused by this fire. Their documents, gold, valuables, and even important doctors’ papers have all been destroyed. They managed to escape only with their lives.”

The affected families have been left with nothing but their lives intact, as the blaze destroyed all their belongings.
