Four Rohingyas Held In Cachar After Allegedly Entering India Through Unfenced Border

Four Rohingyas were once again detained in the Katigorah area of Cachar district on Tuesday night (January 6). The detainees—two men and two women—were apprehended from the Supply Gate area of West Katigorah.

According to sources, the four individuals allegedly entered India through an unfenced stretch of the India–Bangladesh international border at Jalalpur area of Katigorah. After entering Cachar, they were reportedly waiting at Ashik Hotel in the Supply Gate area for a local agent when their suspicious movements drew the attention of the locals.

Locals held the foreign nationals and informed the police. Upon reaching the spot, police took custody of the four Rohingyas from the locals. During a subsequent search, police seized several documents from their possession, including refugee cards. Officials said interrogation of all four detainees is currently underway to ascertain further details.

Katigorah Sanatani Sangha president Sumit Baishnab, who was also involved in detaining 9 Rohingyas on January 1 this year, said, “We mean no harm to them. We just want to know who runs this syndicate of transporting them and ensuring safe passage through international borders. There are some people from Damcherra involved, and there could be many others as well.”

In a video, the detained Rohingyas claimed that after entering India from Bangladesh through the international border at Jalalpur, they were headed to Delhi.
