From just higher secondary with one stream to School and Degree College; 25 years of Rise and Rise of Ramanuj Gupta Edu Group

Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Ramanuj Gupta Senior Secondary School kicks off with a massive rally at the heart of the town. Present students and alumni of the college took part in the rally. This marks the beginning of what is going to be a year-long programme to celebrate the completion of 25 years.

The junior college which started its journey in 1998 has completed 24 years of education excellence this year. Other than cultural events, the junior college also plans to hoist different quizzes, debates, and sports meet in the coming days. The students along with the parents of the first batch of students of the junior college will be felicitated during the cultural night.

Rudra Narayan Gupta, the President of Ramanuj Gupta Memorial Trust said, “In 1997, my elder brother Ramanuj Gupta passed away in an unfortunate incident and that has completely disintegrated the whole family. My father had left his practice and nothing was going well for us. My mother lost her son, who had come here on vacation. My father really wanted to do something to cheer up the family and especially my mother. Somewhere, he felt the need to fill this void. Many suggested different ideas so that we could do something in Ramanuj’s memory. But probably after reading my brother’s diaries, he thought of opening this educational institute, and a year after this incident in 1998 he started this school with some of his friends and their support. We started with only the science stream and today we have not just all three streams, but a school up to +10 level and a degree college”.

About the initial journey of the junior college, Gupta said, “We started with just 30 students and so far almost ten thousand students have passed out from this college. In the initial years, we even had to break the walls of our classroom because of the overwhelming number of students taking admission to this college, but we never compromised with the quality of education or the seating arrangements. We don’t have any elite students, Ramanuj belongs to everyone. Starting from the children of daily wagers to rich parents. We have always tried to give preference to merit and there has been no instance that a meritorious student didn’t get admission to this college for monetary issues. Whoever approached us with financial troubles but were meritorious, we gave them concessions and today they are placed at excellent jobs. We were the first to introduce uniform and internal assessments like weekly tests in the higher secondary level in Silchar and we say that very proudly. 46 students have secured rank in the state merit list so far and three of our students also secured All Assam Rank 1 in the AHSEC exam”.

On behalf of the trust, Rudra Narayan Gupta, the President of the Ramanuj Gupta Memorial Trust, Saradindu Dhar, the Junior College Administrator, Principal of the three institutes, Purnadeep Chanda, Dr. Anjana Bhattacharjee and Diptiman Biswas were present in the press briefing where the programme plans were shared.

Purnadeep Chanda, the Principal of the Ramanuj Gupta Junior College addressing the press said, “In this completion of 25 years many have joined us, many of them are still there with us, some retired, some left, we want to celebrate this 25 years with all of them, whoever were there with us at some point of this journey. We want to recognize the efforts of everyone associated with us. Day 2 of the celebration on Monday is the foundation day of the college. At 9 AM, we have the flag hoisting ceremony where the Cachar Deputy Commissioner will hoist the National Flag along with the symbolic flags of Ramanuj Gupta Memorial Trust, the Degree College, Junior College and Ramanuj Vidya Mandir. On the same evening is the cultural program”.

About the cultural program, Dr Anjana Bhattacahrjee, the Principal of Ramanuj Gupta Degree College said, “The cultural evening will start at 2 in the afternoon and will be held at Rajiv Bhawan. The stage is dedicated in the memory of our respected sir Biswajit Ghosh and is named as ‘Biswajit Ghosh Memorial Stage’ (বিশ্বজিৎ ঘোষ স্মৃতি মঞ্চ). There are different segments of this program, one section is dedicated to our notable alumni and the other sections include in memory of Lata Mangeshkar, Nirmalendu Bhattacharjee, and the felicitation of different guests. This year’s program will be different from earlier years”.

Saradindu Dhar, the Trustee and Administrator of the Ramanuj Gupta Junior College said, “I have been there since the idea of this educational institution was conceived. Our aim has always been to provide a different and unique way of learning for the students of not just Silchar but the whole of Barak. Since we started this college people have trusted us and the result is clear and known to all. Everyone knows Ramanuj for its strict environment and the year-on-year growth is also nothing new to be mentioned. We don’t imitate anyone and nor do we compete with any other institute, we are unique and with the advancement of technology, we are also trying to adapt to these changes”.

The board members also mentioned this year’s cultural evening will be live-streamed on their Facebook Page for the alumni to watch from all across the world. A dance drama will be presented highlighting the journey of the institute. It was also highlighted that the guest of honour this year are the parents who have trusted Ramanuj and sent their children to the institute. The closing ceremony of the Silver Jubilee will be held on November 14, 2023.
