Gang Wearing Lungi And Burqa Loots Rs. 2 Lakh, Gold From House In Katigorah
During a stormy night when it rained cats and dogs, a daring robbery allegedly took place at Madhuarpar in Katigorah, Cachar, on Sunday night (March 15) when a six-member gang broke into a house and looted cash and gold ornaments after threatening the homeowner with sharp weapons.
The incident occurred at the residence of Gopa Malakar. According to reports, the area was without electricity due to heavy rainfall when the armed gang broke open the door of the house around midnight and entered. Five members of the gang were reportedly wearing lungis and masks, while one was dressed in a burqa.
The robbers allegedly assaulted Malakar, tied her hands and legs and ransacked the house before breaking open an almirah and looting around Rs. 2 lakh in cash along with gold ornaments worth approximately Rs. 60,000.
Recounting the incident, Gopa Malakar said, “At around midnight, a group of six people broke open the door using sharp weapons and tied my hands. They ransacked the house, breaking open the almirah, fridge and everything else inside. They found gold ornaments worth around Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 2 lakh in cash. I had recently sold a plot of land in Hilara and kept the money at home. I was planning to deposit it in the bank, but kept postponing it. They even removed the ornaments I was wearing, including my earrings and bangles. In the end, they left me with nothing except the clothes I was wearing.”
She added, “I have a three-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son. When he saw so many people entering the house, he got frightened and hid under the bed. My husband stays in Bangalore.”
Malakar further stated that all the robbers were wearing lungis while one of them was dressed in a burqa.
Police reached the spot the same night after receiving information and launched an investigation. Based on the victim’s statement, three persons suspected of being involved in the incident have been detained and are currently being questioned at Katigorah Police Station.
