Governor hands over Oxygen cylinders, generators to Dipayan Chakraborty; “Will help improve Red Cross Hospital,” MLA
On June 20, 2021, a Cargo from Volga-Dnepr landed at Guwahati Airport from Canada. The airline based in Ulyanovsk, Russia specializes in providing air charter and cargo services. Moments after the midnight landing, it was informed by the authorities that the shipment contains medical equipment related to COVID19.
The Airports authority informed, “Human relief materials safely handed over to consignee Indian Red Cross Society by our cargo team.” Today, at a meeting in Governor of Assam, Professor Jagdish Mukhi’s residence, a part of the consignment has been handed over to Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty who is also the secretary of Indian Red Cross Society – Cachar.
“It was a moment of great happiness and pride to have represented the Indian Red Cross Society, District Branch, Silchar to receive two numbers each of oxygen generators, oxygen cylinders, transformers and gauge sets from Indian Red Cross Society, State Branch. The system was handed over by his Highness, Honourable Governor of Assam, Professor Jagdish Mukhi. I on behalf of District Branch, Silchar convey my gratitude to all concerned for this noble venture,” shared Dipayan Chakraborty, on his official Facebook page.
Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Dipayan Chakraborty added, “As a secretary of Red Cross me and the entire team are trying to improve its infrastructure. Some oxygen cylinders and concentrators were dispatched from Canada as aid. We requested the state branch of the Red Cross to allot some for us. The state branch heard our plea and gave us two oxygen cylinders along with oxygen generators and oxygen concentrators. The governor handed over the aid to us which is a very big achievement.”
He added, “I believe that it is not only a matter of pride for Silchar Red Cross but for the town as a whole. We now are forced to buy oxygen cylinders for Red Cross Hospital at a high cost every month. As oxygen can be generated now so we will able to connect the beds with oxygen supply via pipeline. This will help us improve the facilities in Red Cross Hospital. Patients will be immensely benefited from it and more people can put their trust upon Red Cross now.”
It is worth mentioning here that Red Cross Hospital in Cachar has a huge infrastructure. If a good number of beds get connected to Oxygen, the Hospital can share the load in terms of treating symptomatic COVID-positive patients. At this stage, the symptomatic COVID-positive patients only have Silchar Medical College and Hospital to depend on. Apart from that, no other Government hospital in Barak Valley admits symptomatic patients, primarily due to lack of continuous oxygen supply.
