Hailakandi Administration gets 366 drop-outs back to school on International Literacy Day

International Literacy Day was observed today in Hailakandi District at a befitting manner by sending 366 ‘out of School Children’ back to school under District Administration’s “School Chalo Re” initiative.

Inspired from the noble Rabindranath Tagore’s anthem ‘Ekla Cholo Re’, guiding people to move forward despite all obstacles, the School Chalo initiative aims to bring all those children back to school who left education for some or the other reasons.

“A month long drive was undertaken in Katlicherra educational block by authorities to find out the children from remotest clusters who either have never gone to schools or left education for family or other social issues. These Children have been brought back to schools today” said a press release.

The pilot initiative is being executed by the Hailakandi Administration in partnership with the Education Department. The initiative has been taken up only in Katlicherra block as it is the educationally most backward block of the district.

During the programme, District Commissioner Keerti Jalli exchanged pleasantries with the children and also felicitated the parents for extending their support towards the ‘School Chalo’ call of the DC.

Speaking on the occasion, District Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha said that strategies have been formulated to check the drop out of students from schools. “These students will be hand holded in the schools for the coming months and will be formally admitted in schools with the beginning of the session 2020” Jha said.

The program was initiated by DC joined by ADC (Education) Ranadip Dam ACS, Inspector of Schools Rajiv Jha, Assistant Commissioner Sari L Rangtau ACS, BEEO Katlicherra, Piramal Foundation Sadasiva Reddy.
