
Hailakandi Police Nab 27 Thieves in Overnight Raid; Stolen Property, 2 Cars Recovered
After a series of theft crackdowns in Cachar, Hailakandi Police launched a coordinated late-night operation across the district on Friday night (August 1), arresting 27 alleged thieves and recovering a large haul of stolen goods.
On the same night and at the same time, the in-charges of all police stations under Hailakandi district, supported by heavy police contingents, carried out simultaneous raids targeting habitual offenders. The Hailakandi Sadar Police Station apprehended 12 suspects, while Katlicherra nabbed 1, Algapur 3, Lala 4, Ramnathpur 4 and Panchgram 3.
During the operation, police seized an Alto and a Santro car, four batteries, two inverters, three mobile phones, iron rods, GI wires, and several sharp and blunt instruments allegedly used for breaking into houses.
Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) of Hailakandi, Samiradatta Barua, confirmed that all 27 arrested have been produced before the court on Saturday.
Speaking to the media, Barua said, “Yesterday, we launched this drive simultaneously in seven police station areas and arrested 27 thieves. Two cars, various iron materials, batteries, inverters, and construction tools were recovered. We also found machetes and other tools used for breaking into homes and committing thefts.”
