Hailakandi’s Sufian Siddiquee Barbhuiya Selected for State Award to Teachers 2025

Sufian Siddiquee Barbhuiya, headmaster of PM Shri Jamira Higher Secondary School, has been selected for the prestigious State Award to Teachers 2025. He is the only teacher from Barak Valley to receive the honour this year.

The Department of School Education, Government of Assam, announced the names of 15 teachers for the award, which will be presented on Teachers’ Day, September 5, at the Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha auditorium of Tezpur University. Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu will hand over the awards at the state-level celebration of the 64th Teachers’ Day.

Congratulating the awardees on X, Minister Pegu wrote: “Congratulations to all the teachers selected for the State Award to Teachers 2025. Your dedication and commitment to shaping young minds truly inspire society.”

Siddiquee, a resident of Katlichhara, comes from a family of educators. His father, Abdul Sattar Barbhuiya, served as a teacher at 684 No., Sultanichhara Primary School inspired him to pursue the same profession. Siddiquee said he had dreamt of becoming a teacher since childhood by watching his father, and he still follows his teaching methods. He also mentioned that he dedicates this award to his father.

He joined Jamira High School as an assistant teacher in 2010 and is now working towards his dream of making Jamira Higher Secondary School one of the best institutions in Hailakandi district.

Under Siddiquee’s leadership, Jamira High School has undergone remarkable changes. The remote institution has been upgraded to a Higher Secondary School, recognised as a matriculation examination centre for South Hailakandi, and designated as a PM Shri School.
