Heatwave: Cachar DC issues revised time table for Govt. and Pvt. Schools

In response to the rising temperatures and reports of heatwaves across the state, the Department of School Education in Assam has granted deputy commissioners (DCs) the authority to determine school timetables based on weather conditions. The move aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students, reducing their exposure to scorching heat during school hours.

Following the issuance of the notice, Deputy Commissioner Rohan Kumar Jha of Cachar district wasted no time in implementing the revised schedule. Acknowledging the persistently high temperatures and the need to protect students, Jha rescheduled school timings, effective from June 5, 2023.

The revised school timings for both government and private schools under Cachar district are as follows:

L.P. Schools: 7:30 AM to 12:15 PM
U.P. Schools: 7:30 AM to 12:45 PM
High Schools / Higher Secondary Schools: 7:30 AM to 1:15 PM

The order will be in effect until further notice, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a cool environment for students and prioritizing their safety and comfort during the hottest parts of the day.

By allowing local authorities to make informed decisions based on the prevailing weather conditions, the department aims to mitigate the risks associated with extreme heat and provide a conducive learning environment for children.

The move has been widely welcomed by parents, teachers, and education stakeholders in Assam. Many believe that adjusting school timings during heatwaves will not only safeguard the health of students but also enhance their concentration and academic performance.
