Here is a list of great poems from Atal Bihari Vajpayee: A must listen
Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee breathed his last on Thursday at 5.05 PM. Political fraternity of the country, as well as leaders from across the border, expressed their sorrow for the sad demise of the legendary politician, statesman a true patriot.
Before getting into electoral politics, Vajpayee was a journalist and an editor. He was a living thesaurus- never short of words. Melody or rage, Vajpayee had creative sentences always ready at his disposal. He was an evolved poet who started writing poetry at a very young age. His oratory skill was one of his biggest strengths. Now leaders pay to get a crowd. When Vajpayee stood in front of the microphone, karyakartas and general public assembled the night before, just to listen to his words.
His speech ‘Andhera Ghatega Kamal Khilega’ in Mumbai is still recognised as one of the best speeches of all time. BJP traveled a journey from two seats to an absolute majority. L K Advani’s campaign strategies and Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s words played a vital role in the journey.

Here is a list of five poems, a glimpse of Vajpayee’s poetry

Geet Naya Gaata Hoon

In this poem, the poet portrays Parliament as a writer. Atal Bihari Vajpayee believed that incumbency has fatigued the government machinery and through his words, he conveyed his thoughts. He was also optimistic at the same time that a change in government will rejuvenate the Parliament and the country will grow and shine and that is why his poem moves from ‘Geet Nahin Gaata Hoon’ to ‘Geet Naya Gaata Hoon’

Mastak Nahin Jhukega
Since Independence of India, global powers like America, Russia and economic superpowers of Middle East has acted as aides of Pakistan. Actually it continued till 9/11 Pentagon attack. Every time there was a debate on Kashmir, the United Nations or Bill Clinton’s White House took Pakistan’s side in diplomatic ties and global convention. This poem takes a jibe at Pakistan and at the same time sends a message across to the West. No matter what and who is opposing India, till Sun has light and the Ganges crystal, till fire burns, India will not take its feet off from Kashmir.

Aaj Sindhu Jwaar Utha Hai
This poem brings alive the pain and plight of the Partition of India. Vajpayee delves deep into sufferings and questions the decimations of Temples and Gurudwaras. At the same time, he reminds the West, which is very much the reason behind the partition that Sun rises in East and it will continue to do so, bringing new and fresh energy to the province. He equates India with mother in the poem.

Amar Aag Hai

Himalaya is often defined as a still lifeless place; a place for hermits. Even today when someone gets tired with their busy daily life, they express willingness of leaving everything and heading to the Himalayas. Atal Bihari denies such perception and terms Himalayas a source of infinite energy, Amar Aag.

Hindu Tan Man Hindu Jeevan
Who is Hindu, what is a Hindu’s identity? This is a poetic definition of Hindu lifestyle. The verses shed light on the sacrifices of the Hindus. There are paragraphs which depict the tolerance of Hindus. Poet asks, when did Hindu force others to convert their religionwhen did they ever captured territories by force and brought down religious monuments. A real Hindu never does that, never did so in the past nor will they ever commit such crime in the future. Poet clarifies it is not because the Hindus are less revolutionary but it is because ‘Hindu Tan Man Hindu Jeevan’ lives with all.

Apart from poetry, Vajpayee was brilliant with his speeches too. Here are a couple of speeches that took the world by surprise.
