In a shocking hit-and-run incident, an overspeeding truck struck and severely injured a police constable on the Ramnagar bypass in Silchar. The incident occurred last evening, June 9, during a police operation based on credible intelligence about illegal contraband.

A police team from the Ghungoor Outpost had launched an operation at the Ramnagar bypass, targeting a truck reportedly heading from Mizoram and suspected of carrying illegal goods. As the police team attempted to stop the truck, the vehicle accelerated and hit the officers at a dangerous speed before fleeing the scene.

Constable Moin Uddin, who was critically injured in the incident, was immediately rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH), where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. His condition remains severe, and he is currently undergoing intensive treatment.

Other members of the police team also sustained injuries in the collision. They received first aid treatment at SMCH and were subsequently discharged.

The police have launched a manhunt for the driver and the truck involved in this heinous act. Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the suspects.

This incident has highlighted the dangerous conditions law enforcement officers face while performing their duties, especially in operations involving suspected criminal activities. The local police force is determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of their personnel.
