Hour long cyclone runs havoc in Barak Valley
A cyclonic storm that lasted for more than an hour disrupted life in Barak Valley. The whole valley suffered major damages but the storm came in as a disaster for the residents living in the rural areas. The roofs have been stormed off and many of the houses in the outskirts tumbled down making people homeless.
A huge tree fell over the Kachakanti Temple, damaging the boundary wall of the temple premises. “It is difficult to put an estimate to the damage caused at this moment. We are trying to remove the tree and only then we will be able to understand how much damage the giant tree caused to the temple,” says a senior member of the Kachakanti Temple administration.
Indian Meteorological Department in its assessment of the storm reported, “Loud peals of thunder with frequent lightning flashes, moderate to heavy spell of rain and maximum wind speed 29 to 74 Kmph(In gusts).”
The department issued a warning earlier today which states there are more to come. “Thunderstorm accompanied with squall (wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph) and lightning at isolated places very likely over Assam & Meghalaya,” is what the Indian Meteorological Department mentioned in its bulletin for April 29, 2019.
