HS 1st Year Maths Paper Leak: Exam Cancelled, 3 Barak Valley Schools Among 10 Suspended
The Assam State School Education Board cancelled the HS 1st Year Mathematics exam on March 20, a day before it was scheduled for March 21, following reports of a suspected question paper leak. In the aftermath, ten private institutions across Assam, had their affiliation suspended. This list also included 3 schools from Barak Valley.
Cachar and Hailakandi districts along with the entire state have been hit by the recent HS 1st Year Mathematics exam paper leak scandal, leading to the suspension of the affiliation of three private institutions—Edith Douglas HS School, Presidency Sr. Sec. School of Cachar district and Hailakandi Science Senior Secondary School, in Hailakandi.
According to an order issued by the Assam State School Education Board, these schools were among ten institutions across Assam that allegedly violated exam protocols by unsealing question papers before the scheduled date and time. As a result, their affiliation and permissions have been suspended with immediate effect, barring them from admitting students in the 2025-26 academic session.
The Board has also directed local authorities to file FIRs against the institutions. However, students currently enrolled in Class XI and those appearing for the HS 1st Year Examination will be allowed to continue their studies.
This development has sparked concerns among students and parents, as many are now uncertain about their academic future.
The other suspended institutions include Azad Anchalik Jatiya Vidyalay, Palhazi (Barpeta); Bajali Academy of Excellence Sr. Sec. School, Pathsala (Bajali); NCD Sr. Sec. School, Suvidya REM HS School, and Pashim Jonai Sr. Sec. School (Dhemaji); Dr. Bhabendra Nath Saikia Sr. Sec. School (Kamrup Metro); Bongalmara Academy Sr. Sec. School (Lakhimpur); Vivekananda Vidyalaya (Majuli); Bagargiri Advance Academy Sr. Sec. School and Alpha Beta Sr. Sec. School (Nagaon); SAS International Model School and Ambitious Sr. Sec. School (Nalbari).
