After a rain-washed subdued Maha Saptami, an overcast-grey sky has welcomed Maha Asthami in Assam. The people of Barak Valley must get ready for another wet day and dress up accordingly. Indian Meteorological Department, also known as the Mausam Vibag has issued its 8:00 am bulletin.

The department noted, “The Depression over central Bangladesh & neighbourhood moved north-northeastwards, weakened into a “Well Marked Low-Pressure Area” and lay centred over the same region at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 24th October 2020.”

Its observation added, “Under its influence, light to moderate rainfall at many places with isolated heavy falls likely over south Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura today, October 24, 2020.”

In its weather forecasts, the IMD stated, “Heavy rainfall very likely at isolated places over south Assam & Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, and Coastal & South Interior Karnataka. Thunderstorm with lightning very likely at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka, and Tamilnadu, Puducherry & Karaikal.”

The department has issued a red warning for Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Dima Hasao, and all the districts of Tripura and Meghalaya. In IMD’s parlance, a red warning means to take necessary action and orange means to be prepared. Yellow and green means ‘Be updated’ and ‘No action’ respectively.
