Infant admitted to SMCH with swine flue dies at the hospital, two active cases, one discharge
Yet another infant admitted to SMCH with H1N1 influenza died on Tuesday. The cause of death is yet to be determined by the authorities. This is the second such case at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. A four-month-old infant from the Uttarkrishnapur area of Cachar died at the hospital, informed the Joint Director of Health
Arman Hussain Laskar was admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital on April 12 when he developed influenza-like symptoms. He tested positive for H1N1 at the medical college and was undergoing treatment for swine flu. On May 7, he was declared dead at the hospital, told the Joint Director of Health, Dr. Ashutosh Barman to Barak Bulletin.
“Currently two patients are undergoing treatment, another patient recovered and was discharged. Unfortunately, there were two deaths, another was referred to SMCH from Hailakandi district. Parents of young infants need to take extra care and report to doctors if any influenza-type syndrome or common cold is developing with the child. COVID protocols can be adopted for precaution”, further mentioned Dr Barman.
When asked about the source of the infection, the Joint Director of Health said, “The origin of the infection strain of the H1N1 remains untraced. We are still investigating to find the source. The parents of the infant who died today also don’t have the flu, they just had a common cold”. The health experts of the district repeated there is no need to panic, just adopting some precautions is necessary.
