Intoxicating tablets worth Rs. 27 lakh seized from car in Karimganj

Police seized intoxicating tablets worth Rs. 27 lakh from a car at Settlement Road in Karimganj town on Sunday.

Sources said police, on the basis of a tip-off, carried out an operation this afternoon and intercepted a car at Settlement Road in Karimganj town, around 55km from Silchar. After searching the vehicle, around 9000 intoxicating tablets were seized.

Two persons including the car driver and another person identified as Abdul Qadir and Anowar Hussain were arrested. The market value of the contraband is around Rs. 27 lakh, sources said.

Complaints on smuggling of intoxicating tablets and drugs have poured in from various quarters from time to time over the years.

The car was taken into custody by the police. The arrested persons were being grilled, as per last available reports.
