January 16 Covid Update: Cases in Cachar drops to 159; 58-year-old dies in SMCH’s Covid ward
What comes in as a major relief for the people of Cachar district, the number of cases has dropped to 159. The district has been reporting more than 200 cases consistently and was the second-highest in Assam in terms of case-load. As per the bulletin shared by the National Health Mission, Assam, on Sunday, Cachar district has reported 159 cases and out of them, 42 samples have tested positive on RT-PCR while 117 on Rapid Antigen Test Kits.
After the drop in the number of cases, Cachar is no longer in second position in terms of highest case-load in the state. Kamrup Metro (912) is now followed by Jorhat (257), Dibrugarh (180) and then Cachar (159).
The NHM Assam’s daily bulletin shared that the cases in Hailakandi on January 16 remained at 30 and all the samples have tested positive on Antigen Kit. In Karimganj district, 42 samples have tested positive on Sunday.
As it has been stated repeatedly, the hospitalisation rate remains low in this wave of Coronavirus infections. Despite such huge surge in the number of cases, Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that there are 32 patients admitted to the Covid wards of SMCH. Three patients are on ventilator support and 13 patients are in Oxygen support.
Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that 58-year-old Lukman Ali Laskar has succumbed in the COVID ward on January 16 at 11:45 am. The patient was admitted to the hospital on January 8, 1:19 pm. “The patient was suffering from Diabetes, Hypertension and Chronic Kidney Diseases,” informed Dr. Gupta.
While we base our COVID report on the National Health Mission, Assam’s bulletin, for those who want to the number shared by the Cachar District Health Department, the district has reported 289 cases on January 16. Remember, this is a number recorded from 12:00 noon to the following 12:00 noon. According to the district health department’s data, 125 samples have tested positive on RT-PCR and 164 samples on RAT kits.
The district health department shared that there are 1,622 active cases in Cachar and out of them 1,455 are in home isolation while 167 are admitted to various hospitals across the district.
