Karimganj Education Dept. Issues Show-Cause Notice to 18 Staff Members of Isabheel HS School

The Karimganj district education department has issued show-cause notices to 18 teachers and staff members, including the principal of Isabheel Higher Secondary School. This notice comes at the behest of a surprise inspection that revealed widespread negligence and irregularities. Assistant Commissioner to the Education Department, ACS Priyanka Yumnam issued the notices after her surprise visit to the school on Tuesday.

During the inspection, Yumnam found that many teachers and staff were absent without official permission, and there were discrepancies between student attendance records and those logged in the ‘Shiksha Setu’ app. Classes were not being conducted as scheduled, with students from Classes 8, 9, and 10 only attending two or three sessions daily. Moreover, the school assembly had not been held for months.

The mid-day meal program was also flagged, as the quality and quantity of meals provided did not meet government standards, raising concerns about potential mismanagement of resources.

“I saw some anomalies during my visit and that is why the show cause notice has been issued. Teachers were absent without any reason or application and there were some gross irregularities for which reason all the 18 faculty members of the school have been issued a show cause notice”, said Priyanka Yumnam, the Assistant Commissioner to a reporter.

Students too confirmed that teacher absenteeism was a regular issue, severely disrupting the school’s operations. Following these findings, Priyanka Yumnam issued show-cause notices to the principal, Prodip Ghosh, and 17 others, directing them to report to the district office within two days to provide an explanation. Failure to comply may result in strict disciplinary action.

This situation has highlighted concerns about the management of educational institutions in the region and the impact on student development. The education department is now closely monitoring the case to ensure accountability and adherence to school norms.
