Karimganj Youth Posing As Fake Police Officer Arrested at Silchar Railway Station by RPF

A man impersonating an Assam Police officer was arrested last evening by the Railway Police Force (RPF) at Silchar Railway Station. The accused, identified as Srinath Seal from Patel Nagar in Karimganj district, was caught while attempting to requisition vehicles in the station premises while wearing an Assam Police uniform.

Sources reported that the man’s suspicious behaviour, coupled with the police uniform, drew the attention of RPF personnel. Upon being questioned, it was discovered that he was posing as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Assam Police, leading to his immediate detention on October 15.

The fake officer was reportedly trying to “requisition vehicles”, meaning he was attempting to falsely use his assumed authority as a police officer to demand or seize vehicles at the Silchar Railway Station. This could have been for personal use or part of a larger fraudulent scheme. The misuse of police powers in this manner is illegal, so his behaviour raised suspicion and led to his arrest by the Government Railway Police Force (GRPF).

The RPF has launched a thorough interrogation to determine the motives behind the impersonation and whether there are any other individuals involved in this illegal act.

The state has seen a sharp increase in incidents where individuals are posing as fake police officers to exploit people.
