Khel Maharan 2.0: Cachar gears up for a spectacular sporting and cultural celebration

The eagerly awaited Khel Maharan 2.0 is all set to enthral Cachar as the District-Level Sports Committee unveiled its grand blueprint during a key meeting held on Tuesday at the DC’s office conference hall.

Presided over by Additional District Commissioner (In-charge of Sports & Culture) Yubaraj Borthakur, the meeting brought together prominent officials, including Cachar Zilla Parishad CEO and ADC Pranab Kumar Bora and Assistant Commissioner and In-charge Cultural Development Officer Deepa Das, to finalise plans for the highly anticipated event.

Scheduled to run from February 1 to February 10, 2025, Khel Maharan 2.0 promises an exciting mix of sporting competitions and cultural festivities designed to foster community spirit and showcase local talent.

ADC Yubaraj Borthakur highlighted the cultural significance of the Jhumur dance, a traditional art form that will be a key feature of the event. A zonal training and rehearsal session for the dance is slated for February 11 at Town Club, with participants from Cachar, Sribhumi, Dima Hasao, and Hailakandi districts gearing up for a grand performance on February 24 at Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium (Sarusajai Stadium), Guwahati. Featuring 160 performers from Cachar’s seven constituencies, the event will be graced by dignitaries from across India. NGOs and local organisations were urged to support the performers and make the cultural showcase a resounding success.

The district is leaving no stone unturned in its preparations for the sporting segment, with premier venues like the Laboc Tea Garden Playground in Lakhipur and the D.N. H.S. School Playground in Udharbond hosting competitions in football, kabaddi, athletics, volleyball, and cycling. In addition, chess tournaments will take place at the Silchar Municipality Office, while swimming trials will be held at the District Sports Association Swimming Pool in Silchar, providing platforms for individual athletes to shine.

Thirteen expert trainers from Cachar are guiding the Jhumur dance performers, under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Deepa Das, who has played a pivotal role in organising this cultural extravaganza.

The District Sports Officer detailed the meticulous planning through a PowerPoint presentation, outlining participant allocations across all Legislative Assembly Constituencies (LACs). This ensures inclusivity and excellence across the board.

The meeting concluded with an impassioned appeal for public support. Citizens of Cachar were encouraged to cheer for their athletes and cultural performers, making Khel Maharan 2.0 a landmark event that celebrates unity, talent, and resilience.

With its electrifying lineup of sports and cultural highlights, Khel Maharan 2.0 is poised to set a new benchmark in the region’s sporting and cultural history.
