Krishak Mukti workers arrested in Hkd for protesting in demand of release of Akhil Gogoi
The NIA on Thursday searched the residence of arrested activist Akhil Gogoi at Guwahati and seized several documents and a laptop computer. Gogoi was arrested by the Assam Police on December 12 as a preventive measure amid protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act 2019 and a case was registered against him.
Officials of the anti-terror force searched Gogoi’s residence in Nizarapara area of Guwahati and also seized copies of his PAN card, an SBI debit card, an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and a bank passbook.
“They (NIA) wanted to see the files in our house and selectively took some of them. I asked them to give me copies of the seized files but they declined. I was also asked if Akhil had met militants when he was jailed earlier,” Gogoi’s wife Gitashree Tamuly said to media persons.
Meanwhile, demanding his release and raising voice against CAA, Hailakandi Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today staged protest near Hailakandi DC office. Speaking to Barak Bulletin, Hailakandi SP PK Nath said, “43 KMSS workers were arrested today while they were staging protest near DC office. They didn’t take permission for the protest and also violated CrPC 144 which is in force in the district. As a result they were picked up and later released on PR”.
SP further added that another group AJYCP also tried to stage dharna, but were arrested. “Total 45 AJYCP workers were arrested and later released on PR” said PK Nath.
