Lakhipur Judicial Magistrate Court Inaugurated by Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi, CM HBS Hints Towards New Minister from Barak
Today, Lakhipur witnessed a momentous occasion as the permanent building of the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s Court was inaugurated by the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice Vijay Bishnoi, on Sunday morning. The ceremony saw the presence of Justices Suman Shyam and Kalyan Rai Surana, alongside Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
On Sunday, the Chief Minister addressed the press following the inauguration expressing his satisfaction, saying, “This has been a long-standing demand of the people of Lakhipur, and I am glad it has been fulfilled.”
“The conviction rate (of courts in Assam) was as low as 5% when I took charge of the home ministry, today the rate has gone up to 23% and I’m of the view that soon we will touch 30%. Over the next two years, we will touch the national conviction rate if things go like this for another 2-3 years. Earlier the situation was difficult and we were much behind, but now we are on the right track and will reach the national average”, CM Sarma further detailed.
Addressing concerns about Bangladesh, CM Sarma emphasised India’s diplomatic efforts to ensure the protection of minorities, while asserting strict security at Assam’s borders. He stated, “It is a very sad thing what’s happening in Bangladesh. The government of India has reacted to it and I think, it’s the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to protect the rights of the minorities. PM Modi is using all diplomatic means to get the protection of minorities. People all over the country are in solidarity with the security and protection of the minorities of Bangladesh”.
“The Assam border is well-secured, and there are no issues,” the Chief Minister said. “However, in cases of border incursions or attempts to enter India via Assam, I ensure transparency by tweeting the names and pictures of those involved, making it clear who is coming and who isn’t.”
On local governance, the CM confirmed that Silchar’s municipal elections will be conducted before the financial year ends, with a mayor appointed thereafter. He also hinted at a potential new minister from Barak Valley joining the Assam cabinet soon.
Reassuring citizens about regional security, CM Sarma revealed that additional police forces have been deployed in Cachar to prevent any spillover effects from the Manipur crisis.
Referring to the Sutarkandi protest today by Sanatani Oikya Mancha over minority issues in Bangladesh, the CM remarked, “We share their concerns. We are tensed about the issue in Bangladesh and we are aware of what’s happening. The people who went to the border to demonstrate also include the members of the Bharatiya Janata Party and now you can understand how worried are about the situation. I’m sure Modi Ji will chalk out a solution to this problem.
This inauguration marks a milestone in improving the judicial infrastructure in Lakhipur, reflecting the government’s commitment to development and security.
