
Landslide at a stone quarry in Mizoram kills 8 including Katigorah resident; 12 still missing
Devastating news coming in from the Hnahthial district in Mizoram. In a sudden landslide at the stone quarry in Maudhar Village of Hnahthial, 15 workers are reportedly trapped inside the mines of the quarry. As per the latest available information, eight dead bodies have been recovered and among them is a worker from the Cachar district as well. The landslide occurred at the ABCI stone quarry last afternoon at 2:40 in the afternoon. The screaming visual of the landslide was also caught on camera.
As per the information from the report availed from the Department of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation of the Mizoram Government, a massive landslide occurred at the stone quarry of ABCI Infrastructure at Maudarh Village of Hnahthial District, Mizoram on November 14, 2022, at 2:40 p.m. As per the report at the time of incidence, the landslide is believed to have buried at least 15 workers along with a number of machineries including 5 excavators, 1 stone crusher and a drilling machine.
Different officials of the state government, including the NDRF, SDRF and state police, the locals have also jumped to help in any way possible. The report published today by the state also said, “12 workers are reported to be missing, out of which 4 workers are ABCI employees and 8 are working under contractors. The death toll at the time of this report stands at eight (8) persons. The bodies are being prepared for Post Mortem examination and the identification of the dead bodies will be done after PME.”
Among the eight dead bodies recovered at the moment, one of them is a resident of Cachar. 25-year-old Surajit Roy who was an excavator driver working for ABCI constructions there. Surajit was a resident of Sripur village in the Katigorah area of Cachar. Currently, his mortal remains have been sent to Aizwal for medical examination and post-mortem report. The family members of Surjajit are also headed to Aizwal to claim and bring the body to his ancestral village. It is suspected that there are several other workers trapped inside who went there for work from Barak.
