Locals intercept truck transporting stolen rice from Nitai Nagar Cooperative Society, Allegations of corruption against Chairman and Secretary
Residents of Hailakandi in Assam intercepted a Tata truck that was allegedly transporting stolen rice from the Nitai Nagar Cooperative Society, which is meant to provide free rice to the poor as part of government welfare programs. The locals accused the Cooperative Society’s Chairman, Rahim Uddin Barbhuiya, Secretary Abdul Adut Choudhury and Abdul Malik Choudhury of stealing rice through illegal means and selling it in the market. The intercepted truck was carrying 50 bags of stolen rice, which were handed over to the Hailakandi Sadar Police, while the driver managed to escape.
The residents have been complaining for days that they have not received their allotted rice from the government at the right time, and they alleged that the Chairman and Secretary of the Cooperative Society became angry when people went to the ration shop to collect their rice. The residents also claimed that rice is frequently stolen from the Nitai Nagar Cooperative Society, but the district administration has failed to identify the culprits responsible for the theft.
Furthermore, the locals have accused the Hailakandi police of inaction despite reporting the theft of rice in the past. Now, the residents are eagerly waiting to see what action the District Administration and Hailakandi Police will take against the Chairman, Secretary, and other alleged culprits of the Nitai Nagar Cooperative Society.
