Lumding-Badarpur hill section certified fit; train traffic restored
The railway track in the Badarpur-Lumding section has been restored after six days of disruption. On July 12, a landslip at KM 110/4-5 between Jatinga Lampur station and New Harangajao station lead to disruption of rail service.
Senior NFR official informed, “Track has been certified fit after completion of repairing works in Lumding Badarpur hill section. Traffic has been restored since yesterday night at restricted speed.”
As per sources, the trains will be running following a speed limit of 10 kmph over KM 110/4-5 between Jatinga Lampur station and New Harangajao station. After completion of the work, the officials decided to test the track by running goods train. As announced earlier, all trains in this region were cancelled till July 19 and on July 20th the trains are expected to enter Barak Valley through the hill section.
It can be mentioned here that the extent of damage was so huge that almost 100 running meter of the track was damaged, caused by the failure of the slope of the railway embankment. To stabilize this slope, a huge volume of boulder was mobilized by means of special material trains which carried boulder from different locations at Lumding Division to the damaged spot. For the stabilization of the sub-base of the track, a volume of 100 Cum of unscreened shingle was also mobilized at the site along with 2050 running meter of rail pile for the stabilization of the bank and the toe.
To ensure adequate strengthening of the base of the railway track, non-permeable, Geo-Textile has been laid on the entire damage length. The track which was damaged has been now fully linked and ballasting is being done to bring it to the requisite standard for the safe passage of trains.
