Major Reshuffle in Cachar Police: 321 Personnel Transferred in Three Phases

Cachar’s Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Numal Mahatta has ordered a sweeping reshuffle in the district police force, transferring a total of 321 personnel across three separate lists issued over the past week. Almost every police station and outpost in the district has been impacted by the move, aimed at breaking long-term postings and addressing allegations linked to prolonged tenures.

According to official orders, the first list, issued on July 31, 2025, transferred 100 personnel within the district. The second order, dated August 4, moved 110 personnel, while the final list on August 8 transferred another 111. Those transferred include unarmed branch constables, head constables, havildars, and naiks from Silchar Sadar, Traffic Branch, Katigorah, Borkhola, Kalain, Udharbond, Dholai, Sonai, as well as various outposts and petrol posts.

Many of these officers had been stationed in the same locations for years, building deep roots in their respective areas. Sources suggest that this prolonged posting has given rise to various allegations against some personnel.

The reshuffle, SSP Mahatta believes, will bring operational freshness in public interest and benefit the public by ensuring more transparent policing.
