Man dies after coming under a train in Karimganj

A 57-year-old man was run over by a train at Patharkandi, around 85km from here, in southern Assam’s Karimganj district on Monday.

The deceased Abdul Sukkur, son of late Kuti Miya, was a resident of Haitakha village and a wage earner by profession.

According to sources, the mishap took place around 3 pm this afternoon when Abdul was returning back home from work. The train, which was on its way from Lumding to Agartala, ran over him, cutting him into two pieces. As a result, he died on the spot.

Receiving the information, a team of Patharkandi police rushed to the spot and sent the dead body to Karimganj Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

Police suspected that Abdul, who had some hearing problems, was late to realise that the train was coming and came under it.
