Man Kills Mother by Drowning Her in Pond, Stands Over Submerged Body in Silence

In a horrifying turn of events from Hailakandi district, a woman has reportedly been murdered by her son in a manner that has left the entire locality in shock. The disturbing nature of the act and the silence of the accused have raised numerous unanswered questions.

On Sunday morning (June 15), a gruesome incident unfolded in the PK Road area of Lala town, Hailakandi, where a young man allegedly drowned his 55-year-old mother following a reported altercation. According to early reports, the accused had been behaving unusually over the past few days. However, no one expected the situation to escalate to such a tragic extreme.

As per reports, the accused, identified as Mimodweep Nath, went to a nearby pond around 8 AM along with his mother, Manju Rani Nath. While at the pond, he allegedly pushed her into the water and stood over her body to keep her submerged. His younger brother, sensing something was wrong, alerted neighbours.

Upon reaching the spot, locals saw Mimodweep standing silently in the pond while his mother lay underwater beneath him. When questioned, he remained unresponsive. Police were immediately informed, and upon arrival, they pulled Mimodweep out of the water. Only then did Manju Rani Nath’s lifeless body float to the surface.

Manju Rani’s brother, addressing the media, said, “Her neighbour called me and said that after some altercation between her and her son, he took his mother to the pond and killed her underwater. He was physically stronger than his mother, so she couldn’t fight back. When I reached, I saw him standing submerged in water while his mother was beneath him.”

“Seeing him in this uncontrollable state, we called for police, and even when the police reached there, they too found him in water, standing submerged, while his mother was underwater below his feet. After the police reached him, he was restrained and brought to the police station. He is quiet and says nothing. He is not addicted to anything – he doesn’t even eat pan – but for a few days he was acting strange,” he added.

Lala police have arrested Mimodweep Nath, and an investigation is underway. So far, the motive behind the killing remains unclear. The crime has caused widespread panic and sorrow not only in Lala town but throughout the Hailakandi district.
