
Massive Drug Bust in Karimganj: Heroin and YABA Tablets Worth Rs 4 Crore Seized; CM Lauds Efforts
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Karimganj Police in Assam seized a substantial quantity of contraband, including heroin and YABA tablets, worth approximately Rs 4 crore. The operation, spearheaded by Superintendent of Police Partha Protim Das, unfolded following specific intelligence inputs regarding illicit drug activities in the Ratabari Police Station area.
During the meticulously planned anti-narcotics operation, law enforcement intercepted a vehicle with registration number MZ 05A 2735. A subsequent search revealed a clandestine cache concealed within the vehicle, consisting of 12 soapboxes containing heroin, with a total weight of 150.64 grams, alongside a staggering haul of 19,800 YABA tablets.
According to police sources, the estimated street value of the seized narcotics is a whopping Rs 4 crore, underscoring the magnitude of the illegal drug trade in the region.
The crackdown resulted in the apprehension of two individuals, identified as Suhel Ahmed, son of Aktar Hussain from Vill: Usha Rani, PS: Nilambazar, and Zamil Hussain, son of Kabir Uddin from Vill: Kalacherra Pattagaon, PS: Nilambazar. Further investigations led to the arrest of Jahirul Islam, son of Azijur Rahman from Nayagram, PS: Nilambazar, who was allegedly slated to receive the illicit consignment.
Expressing his appreciation for the relentless efforts of the Assam Police and Karimganj Police, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to commend the successful operation. In a post, he applauded the law enforcement agencies for their dedication to curbing the smuggling of abusive substances, underscoring the government’s unwavering commitment to combating the menace of drug trafficking.
The seizure of such a significant quantity of heroin and YABA tablets underscores the pervasive threat posed by narcotics trafficking and the vital role of law enforcement agencies in safeguarding communities from the deleterious impact of illicit drugs.
