Massive Fire Engulfs Silchar’s Janiganj on Diwali Evening, Sparks Panic

Janiganj has always been infamous for the risk of catching fire. One of the busiest areas of Silchar houses several important godowns and shops. On the day of Diwali and Kali Puja, a devastating fire caught in the Bhuiya Lane of Janiganj where the flames were caught on a godown.

A major fire broke out this evening (October 31) in a cotton warehouse on Bhuiya Lane, Janiganj, one of Silchar’s busiest commercial areas, on Diwali evening, sparking widespread panic. The blaze, believed to have been ignited by a stray firecracker, spread rapidly due to the highly flammable goods and densely packed structures and narrow lanes characteristic of the area.

Eyewitnesses reported smoke billowing across the town, raising alarm among residents. Several fire engines have been dispatched from across the town in a challenging effort to control the flames.
