Members of Thousand Sayantans meet Chandra Mohan Patowary, urge minister to make Silchar a ‘Startup Hub’

The consistent efforts of Thousand Sayantans, a youth group promising a healthier Silchar and the upliftment of Barak Valley has bore positive fruits. The office of “The Nest”, an Assam start-up is expected to be opened in Silchar as informed by the Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Industries and Commerce.

Thousand Sayantans attended a meeting with the minister on 26th January at Circuit House to discuss the development of start-ups, entrepreneurial training and the overall industrialisation of the region. The members also presented the minister with a proposal letter, highlighting their ideas and findings.

The proposal letter illustrated that converting Silchar, and by extension Barak Valley into an industrial and technological hub will aid in the overall industrial development of the state itself.
It also stated that Barak Valley and its neighboring states including Manipur, Tripura and Mizoram have a stellar potential for industrial excellence.

According to Thousand Sayantans, if the government takes advantage of this opportunity then the entire trajectory of industrial development in India will see a new direction. “We believe that the creation of an industrial zone here will create countless employment opportunities for the youth of Assam and will also benefit those who will build the industrial establishments,” read a part of Thousand Sayantans’ press release.

The organisation has requested the minister to consider setting up a manufacturing unit and IT hub across Barak Valley while keeping Silchar in the center. They have also requested the establishment of various small, medium and large scale industries in the region. “We have also requested a conference of industrialists at least once a year in Silchar”, mentioned the release undersigned by the members of the organization. They have proposed the establishment of a “skill university” and the construction of its campus in Silchar. When they demanded the speedy development of a multi model logistics park, the minister assured them that it is already in progress.

In the conclusion of their proposal letter, they reiterated their request to construct an industrial zone across Barak Valley and Silchar as soon as possible. MLA of Silchar Kanad Purkayastha, Bimalendu Roy, Sujit Dev and others were already present at the meeting venue. It’s worth mentioning here that the joint efforts of Thousand Sayantans was instrumental in setting up Cath Lab at Silchar Medical College and Hospital recently.
