Meteorological department issues warning of heavy rains in the next four days
The all India weather warning bulletin issued by the India Meteorological department today warned Assam and other states of heavy rains in the coming days. As per the notice, the state may brave heavy to very heavy rainfall till June 29. Towards the end of the week, Assam has been put in the category of ‘be prepared’ citing that it could face trouble times ahead.
As readers would know Barak Valley recently faced a turbulent times after heavy rains. Districts like Cachar, Hailakandi, Karimganj were flooded with overflowing river water, that cost lost of property and lives. As per latest numbers, more than 15 people have died in the flood while many bodies are still missing. Acres and acres of crop land also got destroyed landing a huge blow to the agriculture.
Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had visited Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar in the Barak Valley over the weekend and announced a Rs 100-crore package for the victims and repair of the damaged infrastructure.
While the situation has been reported to improve, the coming rain could once again leave the southern part of Assam crippled.
