Miscreants from Uttar Pradesh active in Barak Valley; Police catches 4 while trying to hijack truck

From Nilambazar towards Tripura, a newly bought truck was seen travelling last night. It is an usual route for trucks and thousands of them drive through every night.

However, last night a truck was seen unusually overtaking another truck multiple times on the road near Baraigram. The unusual behaviour was brought to the notice by Karimganj SP Office and the Badarpur Police station was prompted to install a check gate.

Within 15 minutes of installing the check gate, officials in Badarpur saw a truck without number plate in the front. In the rear end, the number plate was partly erased. That prompted them to check it further. To their dismay, they found that two individuals were brutally beaten and trapped inside the truck. The officials rescued them and sent them to Srigauri Hospital for treatment.

Three other individuals were detained from the truck. Later, they confessed that they were trying to hijack the truck. All three of them are residents of Uttar Pradesh. They have been identified as Sonu Yadav, Amit Gupta and Asif Khan.

After interrogation, the Police got to know more details about the incident. As per information given by Police, Sanjay Deb Verma and Dusharai Riyang were driving a truck loaded with Horlicks from Guwahati to Tripura. The miscreants chased them down and stopped the truck near Nilambazar. There the miscreants assaulted the duo and hijacked the Horlicks loaded truck.

The three had a companion in Tabiyat Khan who is also a resident of Uttar Pradesh. Khan drove the Horlicks loaded truck and the three miscreants were driving on another truck without proper number plate. Later, Police also managed nab that truck from Nilambazar. Tabiyat Khan has also been arrested.

All four of them are now in the custody of Police. The investigating officer said, the three of them confessed they were out of money and that is why they tried to hijack the loaded truck.

SP Mayank Kumar confirmed the development. “It is clear that the miscreants from Uttar Pradesh were trying to hijack the truck. Four have been arrested, and the Police is investigating the matter,” asserted Kumar.

The driver and his assistant are under treatment and the Police has recorded their statements. Both of them are residents of Tripura. The Police are suspecting that six more are involved in this Truck-hijack racket and they are investigating the matter.
