Miscreants in an Alto car gets away with full tank petrol without paying in Hailakandi

Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic has taken hold of the country, cases of theft and robbery have also seen a steep rise, especially in the region of Barak Valley. Even cases of daylight robbery and burglary amid such a challenging time isn’t uncommon now these days. Now in a unique case of petrol theft, a couple of unknown miscreants succeeded in getting away with a full tank worth of petrol in their car without paying a single penny to the petrol pump. This bizarre incident happened in Hailakandi a few days back and the miscreants are still at large at the time of compiling this news.

A few days back, at the AC Paul & Brothers petrol pump situated at the Rabindra Sarani road in Hailakandi, a couple of people came to fill their petrol tank. The miscreants came in an Alto car and asked the attendant there to fill the petrol tank of the car to the fullest. But shockingly, right after the petrol filling was over, the miscreants fled the pump without even paying in return. The attendants did try to halt the car but in vain as they fled towards the Lala road after getting hold of petrol.

According to the owner of the Petrol Pump, when the miscreants arrived at the pump, there was hardly any other vehicle parked there which made it easier for them to escape. “The incident happened a few days back when an Alto car with two people seated inside came to fill their petrol tank. As asked by the customers, the attendants filled their car tank to the fullest. As a part of the plan, they strategically placed their car a bit further away from the pump machine so that it’s easier to escape. But right after petrol was filled, the miscreants suddenly fled the scene without even paying for it. The attendants did try to stop but all in vain. We have CCTV installed in our pump so we have all the footage of that car arriving and leaving the scene with timestamps. But unfortunately, the car didn’t have any number plate on it, so it became all the more difficult to locate that car and the miscreants who fled towards the Lala road after getting their job done”, said the owner of the petrol pump. According to him, the total worth of the petrol stolen is ₹3,470.

He also said that they have already filed an FIR at the Hailakandi Police station regarding this petrol theft case and according to the police, the investigation is still on.
