MLA Dilip Paul visits Malugram; lauds Police, appeals for peace, says, “No perpetrators will be spared”
After two tensed days, Malugram is gradually crawling back towards peace. The communal clash that broke last night resulted in District Administration clamping a curfew in areas under the Malugram Police outpost. Assam Police officials, CRPF jawans are patrolling the area and so far, since morning, no fresh clashes have been reported.
Meanwhile, Silchar MP Dilip Paul visited the spot today morning. He appealed to the general public to maintain peace and harmony. “Malugram is a peaceful area filled with residents who believe in living in harmony. Like in every area, in Malugram too there are a few miscreants who disturbed the law and order situation. We should not blow this small incident out of proportion,” he said.
Paul lauded the Police officials and the district administration. “As tension escalated, Police acted with efficiency and successfully brought the situation under control. I have had a detailed interaction with the local BJP Mandal committee head and he has briefed me about the clash,” the MLA added.
Few shops were vandalised, vehicles were damaged and stones were pelted on local residences. The MLA asserted that these are a breach of law and order. “I give an assurance that no perpetrators will be spared,” said Paul. He urged people to invest all the energies in fighting the pandemic and not amongst each other. “Coronavirus is our biggest enemy at the moment.
Cachar SP, Bhanwar Lal Meena who was there on the spot till 3:00 am and have been patrolling since morning said that the situation is under control. “It’s peaceful here in Malugram and the curfew rules and regulations are being strictly followed. Strict actions will be taken against those who violate the curfew,” said Meena.
Additional SP, Jagadish Das is also at the spot. He said, “The police are actively looking for the miscreants who initiated the clash and those who are behind the vandalisation of private and public properties. All of them will be booked as per law and actions will be taken against them.”
Office of the Deputy Director Information and Public Relations has started an awareness campaign in the Malugram area. A mobile announcement van is driving in the locality to inform residents about the clamped curfew.
