Mob assaults Block Development Officer in Sonai’s Swadhin Bazar; Action to be taken by office of DC
The Block Development Officer of Sonai was attacked by local mobs over a no-confidence motion. In the Swadhin Bazar Gaon Panchayat of Sonai, the condition went very turbulent on Thursday afternoon.
No confidence motion was raised against GP President, Vivah Rani Das, by seven members of the Swadhin Bazar GP. Accordingly, BDO had called for a confidence motion and it was revealed that six votes were against her while one member voted in her favour nullifying the no-confidence movement.
Hussain Mohammad Mubin was on his duty to organize the peaceful Vote of Confidence of that GP. The members who had moved the no-confidence motion got irked after finding a vote in favour of the president. The members and their supported gheraoed in the office of the BDO and tried to attack him. Behaving like goons, the mob manhandled the officer on duty.
Recalling the horrific incident, BDO Mohammad said, “The voting process was being conducted peacefully, but to temper the votes and destroy the official file related to that election is not right. They came with their vested interest and physically assaulted the officials of our office including me. There is a security lapse as these people come to the block office and created a ruckus. The local people have a nexus which needs to be stopped so that we can do our work peacefully”.
He further said, “I’ve discussed the issue with the Deputy Commissioner and further actions will be taken in consultation with the office of the DC”.
Police and CRPF personnel had to rush to the spot to stop this attack on the officer. In this process, the security personnel were also physically injured along with the office bearers of that office.
