Mobile Phone Stolen From Elderly Patient Inside Silchar’s Valley Hospital; CCTV Footage Reveals Theft
In a startling incident of robbery inside a private healthcare facility, a mobile phone was stolen from an elderly patient admitted at Valley Hospital, located in the Meherpur area of Silchar. The incident took place on the morning of July 24, just hours before the patient was scheduled to undergo a minor operation.
According to the patient’s family, the elderly man was admitted to the hospital last evening and kept under observation in a deluxe room for better comfort and security. However, on Thursday morning, while his wife—who was attending to him—momentarily stepped out, an unidentified man entered the cabin claiming to be a hospital staff member. He reportedly told the patient that he had come to change the dressing of the area where the surgery was to be performed.
Taking advantage of the absence of the attendant and the vulnerability of the elderly patient, the impersonator stole his mobile phone and fled the hospital premises.
The entire sequence of events, including the entry and exit of the suspect, has been captured on the hospital’s CCTV cameras. A family member has shared the CCTV footage and the full account of the ordeal with Barak Bulletin.
The incident raises serious questions about patient safety and visitor verification procedures in private medical facilities.
