Moment of Pride for Barak Valley, CM Sonowal releases Sagota Chakraborty’s music album, ‘Vande Mataram’

Tune of Bankim Chandra’s “Vande Mataram” takes Amraghaat’s Sagota Chakraborty to Chief Minister’s office. Yes, marking a historical moment for arts in Barak Valley, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal himself released Sagota Chakraborty’s single “Vande Mataram” today. “This is the greatest moment of my life, my musical journey,” says Sagota.

Amraghat resident Sagota has a Graduation (Visharod) in music and she dances too. She has been singing on stage since she was six years old. She has already released a couple of albums and is often seen performing on TV channel Doordarshan too.

National Song “Vande Mataram” is often touted as one of the toughest songs to perform as it needs immense breath holding capabilities, not many dares to perform the whole song, Sagota did and now she is encouraged by the Chief Minister himself. “He is very nice and a great man. He appreciated my music earlier also, even before being elected as the Chief Minister. When I reached out to his office, it was an instant approval. It feels great when a man of his stature releases your music album,” Sagota shared.

Trained at Bhatkhande Musical University, Sagota is very happy with the production of the song. Swarat Chakraborty, a well-known music producer in Barak Valley arranged the song which he later mixed at his studio in Mumbai. The music video of this song will be available around Independence Day and the song would be streaming online, informed Sagota.

Making a career in music or any other form of arts for someone staying in Barak Valley is a herculean task and often people give up. Sagota is not one of them. Her determination and love for music kept her going, “Family too supported me,” she asserted, adding, “My mother and my sisters have always been supportive. My father too supports me, but only if I am performing closer to home. He is not keen on me moving to Mumbai,” she opined.

Sagota had her set of challenges and rejection too. She traveled all the way to the Capital to participate in an audition of a reality show where she got eliminated in the second round. Every singer dreams of doing a playback in a blockbuster and Sagota’s dreams are no different. “I don’t know if I would ever manage to do playback singing or not but my aim is to compose my own songs and hopefully my albums would find space in people’s heart,” she said.

The singer idolises queen of melody Lata Mangeshkar and Alka Yagnik and is grateful for all the opportunities that she has at her disposal in Barak Valley. “Honestly, I firmly believe that I would have a better career, life if I was staying in Mumbai or Kolkata or any other established markets. Having said so, I am very happy with whatever I am doing now staying here in Barak Valley and that is enough for me,” she asserted.

Sagota Chakraborty lives with her father, Haran Chakraborty, mother, Dulu Chakraborty and two sisters, Suparna and Sanchita. Having the CM like your music and willingly releasing your album is no mean feat. And that’s certainly a great moment for Arts in general and Music in particular in Barak Valley.
