Mother in Cachar poisons 3-year-old son before having it herself; Both dead

A mother identified as Maya Nunia, age 30, committed suicide after feeding poison to her three-year-old son in a harrowing murder-suicide case.

This tragic incident happened in Gurudayalpur village of Dholai constituency. The woman then took herself and her son to Dholai Primary Health Center at first in critical condition. The doctors on duty started the treatment and meanwhile, Police was informed. Since it was a case of murder-suicide, the Police recorded the mother’s statement as well.

After a while the victims were rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital but the child succumbed while undergoing treatment. Maya Nunia herself passed away after a few minutes.

The reason behind her actions is still unknown and the Police said, the case is under investigation.

The residents of the village, however, state that the woman was married in Rajasthan three years ago. Along with her son, she returned to Cachar after separating from husband and started living with her brother. It is stated that Maya had eloped with a local man from the village and married him. What forced her to take the extreme step of killing her son before ending her life is something that is puzzling the locals.
