MP’s neighbourhood is under water and he is missing; Bilpar Locals blame “selective eviction” for water logging

There is no end to suffering in Bilpar region, the neighborhood of MP Rajdeep Roy. Even though the area is stone throw away distance from his home, the Parliamentarian does not find it worthy to visit it, accuse the residents. Vast areas of Greater Bilpar including Padmanagar, Radhamadhav Road and Purnopal Road are under water due to incessant rains and subsequent waterlogging.

The residents have been suffering from hell since the last couple of years. Especially since the drains are clogged, even a little rain causes water to enter their houses. As a result, the locals are fuming with anger.

Locals complain that even Dipayan Chakraborty did not set foot in the area after becoming MLA. Elected representatives and administration officials have remained silent on conducting evictions in this densely populated area, despite so-called ‘evictions’ going on in other parts of the city. Though at one time import and export used to happen through this area’s Singir Khal to Fatak Bazar via boats, illegal encroachment has now led to obstruction of water drainage. The legislators are silent on this issue while the residents are suffering.

Speaking to reporters a local man said, “Despite giving complaints and submitting memorandums to the administration no intiative was taken to solve the problem of water logging in the area. It has become difficult for us to stay in our houses during rainy season. Our children can’t go to schools and colleges due to water logging. We demand an immediate solution to the water drainage problem.”
